ELMHURST — Alec Hutcherson couldn’t imagine playing any better than he did in the first eight minutes of Saturday’s West Suburban Silver game at York.

Hinsdale Central’s senior guard scored all his 13 points in the opening quarter as the Devils handed York, ranked No. 11 by SeasonPass, its first conference loss 53-46.

“That was definitely my best (quarter) of the season,” Hutcherson said. “I felt pretty good out there. I had opportunities. I had nice looks and good shots. People set good screens.”

Meanwhile, Brian Owens (5 rebounds), who scored a game-high 16 points, had only one basket in the first quarter for the Devils (4-3, 2-1).

The Devils were effective on defense by limiting York’s Colorado State-bound guard David Cohn to six points on 1-of-13 shooting. Cohn’s only basket came in the second half when he opened the scoring with a 3-pointer.

“We played him straight up. He’s a tough player to guard,” Hinsdale coach Nick Latorre said.

Cohn was coming off a nine-point game Friday in a win at Glenbard West that handed the Hilltoppers their first loss.

“He played well on the defensive end,” York coach Vince Doran said. “He created a lot of offense through his defense.”

The Devils scored the first 15 points of the game and led 21-3 at the end of the first quarter. Hutcherson scored three consecutive 3-pointers and added two more baskets to end the quarter.

York missed its first six shots and collected its only basket in the first on Frank Toohey’s 15-foot jumper with 3 minutes, 2 seconds to go.

York went on a 11-4 run to start the fourth quarter and came within 46-39 on Toohey’s first basket in the second half, with :59 remaining. Hinsdale, which had lost back-to-back games after holding late leads, ended the York rally by making 8-of-10 free throws in the final quarter.
