Hinsdale Central beats St. Pats to Advance in the Proviso West Holiday Tournament

HILLSIDE, Ill. – Hinsdale Central held off a fourth-quarter surge from Saint Patrick to advance in the consolation bracket of the Proviso West Holiday Tournament.

Trailing by three after the opening quarter, Hinsdale Central (6-3) grabbed a 31-29 advantage at the half by outscoring Saint Patrick (6-3) 19-14 in the second quarter. The Red Devils started strong in the second half, building a 12-point cushion in the first six minutes of the third quarter.

Saint Patrick used a 12-2 run over over the next 7:30 to pull to within two points, but the Red Devils responded with an 8-1 run to open up a 59-50 lead with 3:13 left on the clock. The Shamrocks pulled to within two points on a tip-in by Luis Gallego with 16 seconds remaining, but Hinsdale Central's Brad Anlauf helped put the game away with a pair of free throws with just seven ticks left on the clock.

Anlauf led the Red Devils in the win, shooting 8-of-16 from the floor and scoring a game-high 22 points. Anlauf connected on 4-of-9 attempts from three-point range. Tom Garvin finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, four steals, and three assists for Hinsdale Central. Matt Rafferty came off the bench to total nine points and eight rebounds.

Royale Ewing scored 14 to lead the Shamrocks in the loss. Ismar Seferagic added 10 points while Nick Coleman, Paris McCullum, and Gallego scored nine points apiece.

Hinsdale Central shot 44.2 percent (19-of-43) from the floor, including 35.0 percent (7-of-20) from beyond the arc. Saint Patrick finished the contest shooting 42.6 percent (23-of-54) from the floor, but only 25.0 percent (5-of-20) from long distance.

Hinsdale Central will play in the consolation semifinals on Thursday (December 29) at 11:00 a.m. Saint Patrick will play on Friday (December 30) at 11:00 a.m.
