In the second year of the tourney, and the first non- invitational year, the IHSA broadened the playoffs so that every team in the state had a chance to qualify for the tournament. Thus, our 1909 State Championship is the first true IHSA state title ever and the first Championship in school history. Our 1910 team finished 3rd in the State.
The West Suburban Conference was formed in January 1924 with Hinsdale High School one of the charter members, and it is one of the oldest athletic conferences in the country. The Red Devil Hoopsters proceeded to win conference titles in each of the first five seasons that the WSC was in existence.
Skip ahead to 1951, and the Red Devils again appear in the IHSA March Madness tournament and capture Regional and Sectional crowns before losing to Quincy in the Super-sectionals.
1972 marks the Devils next march to Champaign and an appearance in the "Elite Eight" before losing to Aurora East by a narrow 81-83 score.
At last came the 1996 and 1997 campaigns, where the Devils had what must be considered to be the greatest back-to-back seasons in the history of the school. Along with our first ever back-to-back 20+ win seasons, we made two consecutive trips to the "Elite Eight". Over a two-year span the Devils ran up an incredible 55-7 record, along with 27 consecutive home victories.
Under Coach Ed Lynch, the Devils won IHSA Regional Championships in 2006 and 2007.
Coach Nick Latorre brings stability to our program. He is an experienced coach with a decade of winning tradition behind him. Our future looks bright with Nick in charge!
Overall, in over a century of basketball tradition, the Red Devils have gone “down state” 7 times, won 20 or more games ten times, and captured 19 WSC conference championships.
We have surpassed 1000 wins as a school, which shows something about the long and storied history of Red Devil Basketball!
